Works completed in April 2014 on behalf of private retail client A&J wholesale who had purchased the site to expand and construct their new head offices and warehousing facility.
The former Banner Building estate spanned across 5 acres and the buildings consisted of offices and large warehousing with multi pitched roofs of a typical northern light design which former part of the 1920s former laundry buildings.
The works included for extensive pre commencement planning such as ecological survey ing, pre demolition asbestos surveying, and assistance in obtaining relevant planning permission for demolition on the site, and service disconnection and isolation.
The project involved full strip of all roof slates, full internal soft strip, asbestos removal, demolition, removal of substantial slabs and foundations, crushing, grading and stockpiling for re use in excess of 25, 000 tonnes of high grade 6f2
Specific Contract Challenges included:-
1. Engaged from the outset to arrange all service isolations and diversions of gas supplies. This included working closely with National Grid as the works were located adjacent to the main gas governor supplying Stockport town centre
2. Recovery of £ 350, 000 – 00 of scrap metal and salvageable products
3. Completion of £ 250 , 000 – 00 worth of ground remediation works. MJ Finnigan Limited invested in new state of the art attachments to deal with large foundations on site.
4. Locality adjacent to live residential area and busy main road meant high reach and “Floor by floor” techniques were employed.
