March 17, 2015 by mjfinnigan

MJ Finnigan are currently on site carrying out the demolition of the old Manchester Dry Docks buildings situated in the high profile area of Media City adjacent to the BBC Buildings and ITVs Coronation Street set. The dry docks were opened in 1894 by the Manchester Ship Canal Pontoons and Dry Dock Co.  Later it was known as the Manchester Drydock Co. Ltd.  There were three dry docks in this facility, the largest being 535 feet long, the others being 430 and 450 feet long, all of them have a width of 65 feet.

The works have involved an extensive environmental clean and decontamination of numerous tanks containing over 100, 000 liters of Heavy Fuel Oil.  There has also been extensive asbestos removal operations and stripping of old lagged boiler units which has been done using injection techniques.

The works are progressing well and are due to be completed at the end of March – full details and case study to follow soon.
